Cleaning My Makeup Brushes

Hi everyone, I hope you all had an amazing weekend and enjoyed the beautiful weather! Atleast the nice weather we had in the northeast! I spent the weekend on my family’s boat with one of my friends and it was awesome to just be in the sun all day! Now working all day Monday – Friday, I truly enjoy being outside when I can!

Anyway today I wanted to share with all of you how I clean my makeup brushed as well as what I use to do so, I have some pictures and I will explain and link all products below!

So I don’t clean my brushed as often as I should, yes I will admit it but I try to do so once every two weeks, I know not the greatest, but in my defense I don’t have a ton of brushes and its tough to do it often and still have them to do my makeup during the week. So therefore I try to do them on a Sunday morning so they are ready to go early Monday morning!

Where are my brushes from??

My brushes are a mix from many places including Sephora, Sigma, ELF, Real Techniques and Urban Decay, so a mix of both high end and low end. I am definitely not an expensive brush buyer (yet!). Someday I really hope to have one of those amazing sets from Sigma! I prefer to spend on products and then only on certain brushed that I use on the daily like my Sigma F86 flat top kabuki! That thing is amazing!!

What products do I use to wash them??

I either use the Clinique brush cleaner , this stuff I have had forever, and I do like it a lot but I don’t think it gets as deep of a clean as the next product I will mention. Therefore I use this one mostly for my eye brushes that aren’t used with dar colors, or my powder brush, definitely not on anything I use for liquid!

The other product I use for a real deep clean is the Bare Minerals brush shampoo. This stuff is awesome, it gives a really deep clean and you can tell it really gets all the product out!

What can you also use??

I have heard great things about using baby shampoo on brushes, it is sensitive enough to put on the skin and will give a deep clean, and this will also keep you on budget!

Here’s some from Walmart.

What is my process for cleaning them??

What I usually do is rinse them first in warm water, and then I either spray on some cleanser or I will rub in a pea sized amount of the shampoo and scrub on my hand or on a wash cloth.

Then I will rinse under water again and really squeeze out the brushed to remove as much water as possible.

I will then rub them onto a wash cloth or paper towel and lay them to dry, like shown below.

I really recommend trying to clean your brushes as often as possible because you really will see a difference in your makeup application! This also is helpful in keeping your skin clear, so I hope you guys enjoyed this post and talk to you soon!!

xoxo Kate
